To my Patients and Friends,
Matrix Personalized Medicine is planning to offer something different.
We’ve all been affected in meaningful ways, either directly or indirectly, by the COVID-19 pandemic. Students in particular have faced major disruptions to their lives as a result of a near-universal suspension of all in-person academic, recreational and social activities. And college students have been uniquely impacted. At a time when these older teens and young adults would normally be engaging in a host of exciting activities and transitioning toward greater independence, the abrupt change that has been thrust upon them feels to many like a major setback and has led to understandable feelings of anger, resentment, uncertainty, fear, anxiety and depression.
Well, we’d like to try to help. Lisa F. Leibowitz, MSW, LCSW will be facilitating a series of small Zoom meetings for teens and young adults. The goal of these small group meetings will be to provide a safe, confidential forum for participants who don’t already know each other in which they can share their concerns, frustrations, experiences, coping strategies, hopes and advice as related to the current COVID-19 pandemic, or to merely listen to what their peers have to say. The meetings will be free of charge and no Zoom subscription is required in order to participate.
This first meeting will be dedicated to college students and has been scheduled for Tuesday, April 21 at 4:30 pm. If you are interested, please reply to this email ASAP in order to get your name on the list. The groups will generally be limited to 12 participants and will be filled on a first-come first-served basis. The meetings should last about an hour and a half, although anyone who wishes to bow out early will certainly be free to do so. All that we ask is that participants prepare to be honest, open-minded and non-judgemental.
Rest assured that personal contact information will be kept confidential and that none of the content of any of these meetings will ever be shared without the explicit permission of the participants (and their parents or guardians if appropriate).
If the first meeting is successful and if there is continued interest, we will schedule future meetings for new and existing participants of different ages. Feedback will always be welcome!
We hope you give it a try. Meanwhile, I hope you all stay home, stay calm and stay well.
